The 30 renewable islands by 2030 initiative is already launched! The Clean Energy for EU islands secretariat is aiming to find 30 islands that want to be entirely renewable until 2030. The application phase has been kicked off in order to be handed in by 6 September.
An incredible event that took place on the beautiful Estonian island, Saaremaa, where Airborne Wind Europe Organization Manager, Stefanie Thoms was able to verify during two intense presentations days how important can be AWE for EU islands. Also Giorgio Sella, Kitenergy’s Deputy General Manager was there.
Islands, off-grid locations, and remote communities often face challenges in accessing reliable and affordable electricity due to their geographical isolation or limited infrastructure. AWE can address these challenges holding great potential to provide clean and sustainable power generation by harnessing the strong and consistent winds found at higher altitudes. Also Airborne Wind Energy can be easily transported and deployed in remote areas with low maintenance and installation costs.
Thanks to the European Commission for organising such a fruitful event and we are looking forward to continuing achieving clean energy for EU islands.
