ETIP Wind Public Workshop
The Secretary General, Kristian Petrick and the Communciations Manager, Jesús Carballo, started the journey by attending ETIPWind Public Workshop to shape the next wind energy R&I priorities for 2025-2027 towards an updated Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) under Set-Plan.
Airborne Wind Energy has to take part showing that is ready to complement renewables producing energy by accessing untapped wind resources up to 800m at a relatively low cost and reducing the material consumption and the carbon footprint over the life-cycle.
Thanks to Adrian Timbus, Capucine Vannoorenberghe and Iván Pineda from WindEurope for chairing it. Also to European Commission for hosting us in EU Science, Research and Innovation building.
Launch of IRENA report
It was a pleasure attending the launch of the “Innovation Landscape for Smart Electrification report” from International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
A toolbox with innovative smart electrification strategies to speed up energy transition where AWE is ready to contribute as a key renewable towards NetZero.
Thanks to Matthieu Ballu from the European Commission and the IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera, Roland Roesch, Francisco Boshell and his team for inviting us.
Kristian Petrick: “We were also able to talk very briefly directly to Mrs. Kadri Simson, give her our brochure and refer to our email that we need a European Airborne Wind Energy Strategy. We also talked to her Cabinet Member Rudd Kempener who already knew about AWE. Towards IRENA we re-iterated our invitation for a key-note speech at the AWEC 2024 in Madrid.
ETIP SNET event
Also joining ETIP SNET and Bridge Horizon event focussed on how to allow the efficient integration of renewable energy sources into the smart grid. By combining AWE with smart grids, it´s possible to achieve a balanced electricity supply and demand. Thanks to Norela Constantinescu for chairing it and also to the vice-chair Luis Vale Cunha for the great speeches.

Meeting with the Canary Islands office
Continuing with Spain we had an insightful meeting with the Canary Islands representative office in Brussels. Thanks to José Sánchez Ruano and Cristian Domínguez Beautell for receiving us and to Agustin Arjonilla to explore all the possibilities to deploy AWE in La Gomera as a competitive technology in markets with diesel-based power generation like islands.
EUSEW 2023
Closing the week, AWEurope was attending the European Union Sustainable Week EUSEW 2023 showing AWE presence as a game- changer energy transition solution. Such an incredible event where were panels dedicated to talk about on shore wind, off shore wind, circularity, offgrid or generating energy for islands and remote communities where Airborne Wind Energy is a key player to achieve them. It was also nice meeting colleagues there from REScoop.EU and Climate Action Network International.
