Madrid, 21 April 2026 — A large-scale airborne wind energy (AWE) Kitepower kite attracted significant attention today at the entrance of IFEMA, next to the “Feria de Madrid” metro station, during the WindEurope Annual Event.

Installed in a highly visible location, the 40 m² kite quickly became a focal point for attendees and passers-by, capturing the curiosity of visitors arriving at one of Europe’s flagship wind energy gatherings. Throughout the morning, the installation drew a steady flow of people stopping to observe, take photos, and learn more about this emerging renewable energy technology.

Representatives from Airborne Wind Europe were on site to explain how airborne wind energy systems work and their potential to complement other renewables by harnessing stronger and more consistent winds at higher altitudes.

The exhibition was supported by industry expertise, with Agustín Arjonilla from CT Ingenieros joining the AWEU team to provide insights into the technology and engage with visitors.

Several media outlets attended the exhibition, reflecting growing interest in innovative renewable energy solutions and the role of AWE in Europe’s future energy mix.

Previously showcased at the European Parliament in Brussels and at AWEC 2024, the kite continues to serve as a powerful visual tool to bring airborne wind energy closer to policymakers, industry stakeholders, and the general public.

The next exhibition will take place in Porto, serving as a prelude to AWEC 2026, where the airborne wind energy community will gather to discuss the latest developments in the sector. The date will be shared soon.
