The Agentur für Erneuerbare Energien (AEE) has published its 2025 acceptance survey, showing that Germany’s energy transition continues to increase broad public support. In the first half of 2025, renewable energy sources produced more electricity than coal, signaling the continued momentum of the transition.

Public support for renewables remains high

As part of this year’s AEE survey, conducted by YouGov with more than 1,000 participants, 81% of respondents expressed support for the further expansion of renewable energy. Approval is strongest among 25- to 34-year-olds (85%), while slightly lower among those aged 35 to 44 (75%). Overall, the survey confirms that society remains firmly behind the shift toward clean energy.

Focus topic: Rising awareness and acceptance of airborne wind energy

A key theme of the 2025 AEE survey is airborne wind energy. Public knowledge of AWE is steadily increasing:

  • In the new 2025 survey, 45% said they still did not know the technology but showed interest once it was explained, a strong indicator of growing curiosity.

AWE: An emerging option in the renewable mix

As renewable technologies diversify, AWE is gaining visibility as a lightweight, flexible, and material-efficient solution that can complement existing energy systems. With rising awareness, consistent acceptance levels, and increasing public interest, AWE is positioned to become a more prominent element of Germany’s renewable energy landscape in the coming years.
