Airborne Wind Energy continues to gain momentum in Europe. This time in the Balkans. Last week, our member Wind Fisher was invited to the “Smart Growth, Green Future – Accelerating Investments in Montenegro” summit in Luštica, Montenegro.
The event, hosted by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, brought together leaders and innovators committed to driving sustainable growth and accelerating the green transition in Southeast Europe.
During the summit, Wind Fisher signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Elektroprivreda Crne Gore AD Nikšić (EPCG), Montenegro’s national energy company, to jointly develop projects deploying AWE systems in the country.

As highlighted by President von der Leyen, Wind Fisher is one of “14 outstanding projects that have been launched […] including high-altitude wind power.”
The company has already identified a promising pilot site for the first Airborne Wind Energy system in Montenegro, expected to be installed in 2026, supplying clean electricity to the largest vineyard in the Balkans.
As Montenegro moves closer to EU accession, the country is emerging as a regional hub for renewable innovation in the Adriatic. With strong national and EU support, Airborne Wind Energy is set to play a key role in this transformation, and Wind Fisher’s commitment marks a major milestone toward deploying high-altitude wind farms in Southeast Europe.
Airborne Wind Europe congratulates Wind Fisher on this achievement and welcomes this important step for AWE’s commercial expansion in new European regions.
