Airborne Wind Energy: Powering Germany’s clean energy future
A new study by DIW Econ shows that Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) could deliver major economic and energy benefits for Germany, with a potential cumulative impact of up to €10.5 billion over the next decade. Steady expansion in Germany could also create 30,600–104,300 job-years (around 3,100–10,400 jobs annually) over the same period through multiplier effects along supply chains.
By complementing solar and conventional wind, AWE can enhance energy security, system flexibility, and industrial competitiveness. With supportive policies and targeted investment, Germany has the opportunity to become a global leader in this emerging renewable technology.
